Best hikes, month by month
Pick a month and see which long-distance trails are at their seasonal best — worked out from the climate normals we hold for every route, not from opinion.
How these months are chosen
For every trail in the database we hold long-term climate normals sampled at the route's midpoint: average daily high and low, monthly rainfall and the number of wet days, per month. A month is listed as a trail's best window when those figures line up with comfortable walking — warm enough to enjoy, cool enough to climb, dry enough to camp.
That makes this a guide to a typical year, not a forecast. Snow lines, permits and hut openings shift from season to season, so check the trail guide and local conditions before you book anything.
